CASE
STUDIES

CASE STUDY 1

Introduction:

In 2018, I became Managing Editor and Moderator of the npj Science of Learning Community, an online platform by Nature Communities (Springer Nature) that featured blogs and insights from journal authors, editors, experts, and the broader research community, complementing the Science of Learning Journal.

Challenge:

To increase engagement with the website by everyday consumers, scientists and stakeholders interested in mind, brain, and education research.

Approach:

  • Fostered an inclusive environment for authors to share their research in various formats (blog, podcast, video, interview) and home languages.

  • Built and strengthened global relationships with stakeholders and teams.

  • Recruited specialist authors for regular contributions and supported reciprocal publishing arrangements.

  • Collaborated with notable contributors, experts in mind, brain, and education research.

These efforts significantly enhanced the Community blog’s international reputation among readers.

Result:

The Community website experienced growing popularity as it featured diverse research stories in accessible formats, attracting a broader international audience, particularly from Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Its content remains influential, with researchers frequently referencing it in their reports and blogs.

CASE STUDY 2

Introduction:

I undertook a three-month, part-time contract as Senior Digital Content / Video Producer at the University of Queensland, where I was tasked with delivering a series of instructional and promotional videos within a tight deadline.

Challenge:

To increase awareness about a UQ program by creating a series of videos aimed at strengthening participation by the science community.

Solution:

  • Developed a ‘Plan of Action’ outlining each phase of the video project: preproduction (script writing), production (filming), and postproduction (editing).

  • Researched program information, university branding, and tone of voice; drafted scripts and scheduled filming sessions with researchers.

  • Presented video previews during weekly meetings, allowing time for team feedback and timely re-edits.

  • Used all available resources to address urgent details, such as filming on different days and at various campus locations.

Result:

The video series was completed on schedule, received enthusiastic feedback from the Research Management team, and was showcased to the scientific community at a Faculty of Science meeting. Published on the faculty’s intranet, the videos continue to inform and guide researchers. Managing this project aligned with my professional goals and was especially rewarding due to the trust placed in me.
