DID YOU KNOW?

A rock cave called the Dargan Shelter located in Dharug Country, the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, New South Wales, is the oldest known human occupied dwelling during the Ice Age circa 20,000 years ago. The notable discovery of 693 stone artefacts, including stone tools, a sandstone grinding slab and rock art, proves humans were active at high altitude in Australia during the Ice Age, a notion previously doubted by researchers. A team of archaeologists reported people traveling in that region from the north and south used the cave as either a temporary dwelling; for meetings; or ceremonies. Learn more about this exciting discovery.
